License

The RBSI framework document — its structure, methodology, category definitions, and written content — is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International).

What this covers

You are free to share and adapt it.

Share

Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.

Adapt

Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercially.

Attribution

You must give appropriate credit to Squarefeet, provide a link to this license, and indicate if changes were made — but not in any way that suggests Squarefeet endorses you or your use.

ShareAlike

If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under this same license. A derivative of this framework cannot be relicensed as closed or proprietary.

No additional restrictions — you may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

What this does NOT cover

The license applies to the content, not the identifiers.

CC BY-SA 4.0 applies to the framework's content only. It does not extend to the following, which are maintained separately by Squarefeet. A derivative work built under this license must not use these names or marks in a way that implies official status, endorsement, or affiliation.

The names "Retail Brands Standard Index" and "RBSI"

The RBSI seal/logo and any associated visual marks

The Retail Brands platform, brand, or product name

Use this wording when redistributing or adapting the framework.

Why CC BY-SA 4.0

Open, but not forkable into something closed.

This license was chosen specifically because its ShareAlike clause prevents any party from forking the framework and relicensing a derivative as closed or proprietary. Anyone may extend or adapt the RBSI — but any published adaptation must remain open under the same terms.
